The Necklace Loisel's Downfall

Many people find it difficult to tell the truth. Mme. Loisel was defiantly one of the people in the story “The Necklace” by author Guy de Moupassant. She suffered 10 years to replace a necklace that she lied about losing. Mme. Loisel if had told the truth would have realized it was a fake necklace. Mme. Loisel cause her own downfall because she was proud, ungrateful, and a liar. If Mme. Loisel wouldn't have been so prideful she may have not had such a big downfall. She was so worried that Mme. Forester would think she was an irresponsible person, that she couldn't tell about losing the necklace. Another example would be that she lives her life to make others feel hint she is different than she really is. The short story proves this …show more content…
Loisel was a very ungrateful person throughout the beginning and the middle of the story. Being ungrateful means that you don't appreciate the things that you have or receive. In the story “The Necklace” Mme. Loisel didn't like anything that she owned, she wanted the finer things in life; “she had no evening clothes, no jewels, nothing. But those were the things she wanted” (73). Clearly she wasn't grateful for her possessions. This is important because it proves that she is a selfish ungrateful person. Being a liar partial caused Mme. Louise's downfall. A liar doesn't tell the truth. In the story Mme. Loisel lied to Mme. Forestier about losing the necklace. Her husband told her to “tell her you have broken the catch and are having it repaired” (78). Of course Mme. Loisel agreed to th lie, and passed it on to Mme. Forestier. This is important because if Mme. Loisel wouldn't have lied she would have found out that the necklace was fake, and she wouldn't have spent 10 years of working to pay it off. By being proud, ungrateful, and a liar Mme. Loisel cause her own downfall. Mme. Loisel wanted more and more,Moshe could never have enough. She cared was to much about what others thought of her, and wouldn't live her life. Lastly, Mme. Loisel lied about losing the necklace. People can learn from Mme.
