The Necklace Greed

In The text “The Necklace.” the author talks about how the main character Madame Loisel is a greedy,selfish, and depressed. He talks all about how she hated the life she lived and how she deserved more in life. As the storying goes on you see the theme developing and impacting M.Loisel, and in this I think the theme is depression. Madame Loisel was not born into a rich family and her entire life she believed that she deserved more than what she had. Loisel believed she needed to be in a place where she was treated like a queen like all the other girls that were high up in the hierarchy, She cared for no one feelings except her own and was always treating people that were below her badly. Madame also treated her husband with no respect even though all he did was love and care for her; He was just a man she married because it was all she could settle for since she was not up there with all the rich families with daughters who got good husbands. In the middle of the text it shows Mathilde first reaction to letter that Loisel her husband brought home. In the beginning of the story Mathilde is ungrateful and greedy and she hates the life she is living. She wanted more than she could have and she treated everyone awfully and was always dreaming about what her life would had been like if she was rich. In the middle of the story Mathilde has lost the Necklace and her and her husband both spent ten years paying off something that could have been easily handled. In the end is where the author really showed the theme greed and how it helped develop the author. Mathilde was once greedy and selfish and because she lied she had to spend ten years paying of debt; however the struggles that Mathilde faced helped shape her into a more pleasant person to be
