Guy De Maupassant’s “The Necklace” is a story that speaks of a woman’s desperation to walk through her life surrounded by the luxuries of the rich that are on par with her husband’s strong and genuine desire to provide her with the happiness that she desperately craves while they both sacrifice their morality and right sense of judgement for one night of false happiness which would eventually lead to their downfall. “The Necklace” is a very appealing story in my opinion because it can be relatable to situations or events that occurred in our personal lives and the story had a simple plot that was easy to follow with the implicit and philosophical message that the story tries to convey. The story is written in a way that the readers can relate to as it portrays Mathilde’s materialistic and controlling nature and her husband’s blind desire to do anything he can to make her happy. Many people might know of a person who is somewhat similar to Mathilde or her husband Loisel. The story described how Mathilde was unhappy when she first received the invitation to the party from Loisel due to the fact that she did not have a nice dress to wear, however her manipulating nature caused him to use the money that he intended to save for his shotgun that he wanted to buy was used to purchase the …show more content…
There are many people in this world who are materialistic just like Mathilde or people who would do anything to make their significant other happy like Loisel which makes the story very relatable. The story also had an implicit message being conveyed to the reader that could be interpreted two ways, and the simple plot of the story made you able to predict the next possible outcome. Although not everyone will agree with my opinion, I believe that the necklace was a very enjoyable story to
