Based on these themes, the author creates this story in order to show that humanity has fallen, including the rich. When Madame Loisel became rich, she felt unsatisfied with what she had. However, her greed to have a necklace became her downfall; she lost all her riches to pay a debt that never should have appeared. As a result, she spent her life lying to her friend, cleaning up the mess she made, along with her husband. What stands out is that humans expect to cherish their riches, only expecting more. Madame Loisel could have gone to the party without the need of the necklace; she could have looked in the mirror, stating that she look beautiful without it. Despite the mess she experiences, her miserable, unsatisfied life can teach readers these three themes in order to practice the morals of gratitude and
