The Natural Peacemaker Albert Einstein once said, “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better”. Mary Shelley in Frankenstein reveals a story of a man named Victor who realizes that he regrets creating a forbidden monster. There is a significant connection between the characters and nature as multiple times throughout the book, the characters look into the wonders of nature in effort to escape their own life obstacles. In Frankenstein nature is a pacifier which sooths and calms the characters from the challenges they face.

For example when going back home to Geneva, victor takes great pleasure in being surrounded by nature like the “lovely lake”, “streams” and “the mountains” (49). This display of the nature which he also encountered during his childhood allowed him for a moment to forget his situation and be at peace. This is significant as the wonders of nature pacified victor after he learned that his beloved brother was murdered. Also during a thunderstorm victor yelled out to the sky “William, dear angle! This is thy funeral, this thy dirge!”(50). William’s death was very tragic to Victor and this event allowed him to pay respect to his family member. Nature plays a role in the way the characters think as throughout the book, the thoughts of the characters and seasons change spontaneously. Spring and summer enlivens the characters as it gives them purpose and self-identity. A reader of Frankenstein can predict that if victor handled the situation differently other than abandoning his creation and making the monster learn on his own; the monster might of turned out to be a good person as he was like any other person on the planet, given a chance to live and express himself. It was directly Victors fault for the monsters belligerent behavior as if victor would of accompanied and tought the monster the fundamentals of proper life, the monster had potential to positively reflect on the world. Also since victor failed to teach the monster, ultimately the secret of creating life from the death died with victor and remained a mystery for the rest of the world. If victor would have taken the proper measures in handling the monster, there was potential to creating more life from the dead and also cheat death as people would never die as they could always come back from the dead. Ultimately nature is depicted throughout the story and it helps the reader understand the way the characters think and also helps the characters with the challenges they
