Ecological distribution The first person who coined the word "gorilla", was Hanno, the navigator of Carthage. Two and a half thousand years ago, Galleys Hanno, looked for places that were suitable for colonization and moved along the coast of West Africa (Ахматов, 2006). Here in Sierra-Leone, Carthaginians met strange creatures. Marvelous sailors passed the logbook down so there would be a record about these wonderful creatures and about their experience of their first contact with people. (Ахматов, 2006). The older sons remain in the family as his father 's deputy and successor (Lang, 2005). Younger sons leave their parents to become vagrants and tries his luck in different places (Huijbregts, 2016). A Gorilla leader can last up to 40 years (Huijbregts, 2016). Gorillas do not protect the territory of the tribe with clear boundaries, only the females of the group. They spend most of their time and move on all fours, although they may well stand and even walk on their hind legs (Robbins, 2016). From other ape’s, gorillas distinguish themselves with one feature which is also observed in chimpanzees and - when walking on all fours, they do not rely on the fingertips and palm, and the back of the folded fingers on the front legs (Robbins, 2016). This is done in order to protect the sensitive skin on the feet. A male gorilla imparts not only the size but also the large head of conical shape, and thick dark, almost black hair (Huijbregts, 2016). Adult males can be easily recognized by a silver band running along the back and partially affecting the hind legs (Huijbregts, 2016). Particularly long hair is observed in mountain gorillas. It helps to save them from the cold and harsh climate of their habitat.
