It took different organizations, teachers, schools, states and other nations to write the standards. They talked about more about multiculturalism in the first standards, wanting to face today’s diverse society. They did later revise the standards to ten broad themes. The new standards makes Social Studies less about events and more relatable to students. They look more into minority group’s part of history and avoiding teaching through the eyes the winner. It helps with the diversity in the classroom and is makes students understand other cultures. The themes create classrooms that make students think about diversity, cultural with critical thinking skills. Students need to be able to ask question and analyze historical events. These standards are able to achieve that goal. They need to understand the time, place, and cultural and outside influences have on history. The need to understand purpose, ask questions and demonstrate what they learned. They are no longer learning to a test like it was before these standards, they are learning real critical thinking skills. These standards are able to do that in the classrooms. These students come out of school learning to think critically therefor creating informed citizens. It is good for Social Studies to get some real recognition on
