If you’ve ever seen a football game you know that the fans react loudest when players score. The second loudest reaction by fans occurs when a player takes or delivers a nasty hit. When there is a direct blow to the head in these collisions players may get a mild traumatic brain injury, also known as a concussion. Sports related concussions have been on a steady rise with more and more people getting involved in organized sports. From the youth league to college and all the way up to the pros, concussions have been tormenting the game of football.…
Pro sports league commissioners’ and their offices have a lot of various responsibilities when it comes to their own sports league. I do not believe that the commissioners’ offices should dictate how franchises handle their reselling and relationships with resale vendors. First thing, all pro sports leagues are completely different and have their own set of rules and regulations, so I would not want to categorize them. I do believe that commissioners’ and their offices should however, have rules and guidelines to how the franchises handle their resells, like every other thing in their leagues such as: penalties, jersey and shoe restrictions, social media policies, etc.…
Hook number 1: According to a study performed by PBS Frontline and ESPN Outside the Lines in 2012, “the rate of concussions per week in the National Football League has rose from 5.4 per week in 2009, to 7.6 in 2010, and 8.4 in 2011” (Fainaru, 2012). This narrative hook would draw the reader in by presenting them with the statistic of the rate that concussions occur within the National Football League. Creswell states in his book, that one should “consider numeric information for impact” (2014, p.114).…
From the video, Big Hits Broken Dreams, many questions are raised from multiple viewpoints. The video spent a lot of time addressing the new protocols that a local greenville high school set in place after losing one of their football players to a Traumatic Brain Injury. One of the questions raised is if high school students should be required to follow the protocols set up for them. However even with support of this policy, what's preventing the students from lying to the trainer or doctor about their symptoms? In the video it addresses how high school football players and even NFL football players will downplay their symptoms just to be able to stay in the game even if it is detrimental to their health in the long run.…
However, before the examination starts, all athletes must read and signed a consent form approved by the institutional review board. Concussion Protocol The NFL has been talking about their protocols on players when they get concussions. They just think they’ll get over the injury in a couple days and continue to play.…

After watching the movie, “Concussion”, and the documentary “League of Denial”, I feel as though it is important that more people know about the dangers of football related injuries. I think that this is a growing problem that needs a solution, however, I do not think football should be annihilated. The dangers in football are evident, but there is danger in your everyday life. If people lived their lives according to the opinions of others, then the balance of life would not be right and we would have everyone living in a false normalcy. Dr. Bennett Omalu and his research has helped expand the growing sports medicine industry and the growing need for research in this little known area.…
Is the NFL doing enough to address head injuries for their sport? The debate over head injuries in the National Football League has perplexing views coming from the audience, players, and medical doctors in the United States. Concussions to some may seem like a minor threat easily nullified by the steady words of a coach, however, such artificial accusations can leave players with a long lasting, never ending toll on their body and their mind. It would seem to most that the treatment of concussions would be common place in today's time, but all to any times the player leaves the hospital just to come back the next day. This repetition of injuries leaves only long lasting scars, rather not physical, but mentally as brain damage. However, like most medical preoccupations, a simple cure can be given to the patient of a concussion victim, and in its simplest form the cure would be time. Not only it is proven that extended periods of time can fully heal the effects of a concussion, but also there is the fact that this time allows for the reduction of subsequent concussions.…
