The NASA Antares Rocket exploded out of the air, after it was clearly safe to launch. 5,000 pounds of supplies and more than 200 million dollars were wasted. Heading to the space station on the rocket were several experiments given by the Chinese, Russians, Americans, and Australians. They were supposed to be tested in space to examine their effects in space however, after the explosion, the experiments need to be returned back to each country accordingly. The Chinese will get LB (mineral oil), MD (aluminum), WC (oak), and PA (corn starch); the Russian people shall receive LC ( isopropyl alcohol), MC (brass), WA (poplar), and PC (salt); the people of the U.S. will receive LE (corn syrup), MF (lead), WB (balsa), and PF (sucrose); the Australian …show more content…
LB, mineral oil, was tested by examining its effects on the dichotomous key. It produced a dark spot when it was soaked into the construction paper which meant, after looking at the dichotomous key, it is mineral oil. Also, scientists calculated the density of mineral oil and researched the known density. The results had only a 6.8% error. MD, aluminum, had its density calculated to get 2.5 g/mL, and its known density was only 0.2 g/mL away. After calculating the density of WC, the results had a 0% error. Also, comparing the physical characteristics of WC to oak, they were relatively very similar. Lastly, through the acetic acid test, and the iodine test, the results matched up to corn starch 's properties. When the iodine test was done on PA, it matched up to the results of corn starch, turning purple and clumping together. China will receive LB, after its characteristics matched up with the dichotomous key, MD and WC, after its density matched up with its known density, and PA, after the iodine test proved it was corn …show more content…
LF has a density of 0.97 g/mL, and the known density was 1 g/mL. LF also had the characteristics of water, clear with low viscosity. During the experiment, MA had its density calculated, and it was compared to copper. The results only had a 6.3% error. During the experiment of woods, WD was specifically looked at for its physical characteristics. WD has light, tan color and a soft texture, resembling the wood of a pine tree. The density of it was also calculated and had a 20% error. Through the acetic acid test, PE mirrored the characteristics of sodium bicarbonate. They both create a large chemical reaction in which fizzing and bubbling occur. The Australians will get LF, MA, and WD through a density comparison, and PE through an acetic acid
