'The Narrator's Struggle In Groceries'

The conflict in the story is mainly based on hunger. The problem specifically is how the narrator is hungry and when his mother sends him to buy groceries for the first time, a gang of boys beat him up, take the money, and take the groceries. In the end however, the narrator beats the boys with a stick in which they go home crying and the narrator gets his groceries like normal. In the story, the conflict is shown mainly at the beginning. From lines 14 to 36, the narrator complains how he is hungry with his mother saying how there is no food and that they will get it when she gets a job, god gives it to them, or their father comes back and gives it to them. She gives him a stick on the way out along with some money to get the groceries. Finally, the conflict is resolved with him going back to the store and encountering the gang. He starts beating the boys with the stick his mother gave him and sends them home crying. Afterwards, he went to the grocery, and on his way home, he didn’t see another one of the boys which showed that he was able to take a stand. In the end, the boy finally learns to stick up for himself. He matures because although his father left him, his mother could barely support, and he never really knew what was going on, his mother was there to help and teach him in a way. She sent him to get groceries and he was beaten. His mother eventually gave him a stick and told him to stick up for himself in which he beat the gang to show he can defend himself.
