Characters in novels make many choices. The choices that these characters make lead to interesting twists and turns in the plot of that particular novel. In the Odyssey, an epic poem, told by Homer, Odysseus makes a critical decision that leads to demise and misfortune. The Narrator in the novel Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier, disrupts her own destiny with her misguided judgement. Although unfortunate, the decisions that these two characters make create an interesting story lines. The choices made by characters and the consequences of those choices develop the plot and are the foundation for good literature.
