James Monroe Was born on April 28, 1758, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. HIs father was a carpenter and farmer, they owned 600 acres of land. The family was not wealthy, yet they never had big financial struggles. James was homeschooled up until he was 16 years old, then he was enrolled at Campbelltown Academy where he was an excellent student. His father passed away in 1774, and James officially owned his father’s plantation and the slaves. He enrolled into college, but soon after dropped to join in the rebellion against King George. He Joined the Continental army, and fought in the Lexington and Concord battles. James began to study law again from 1780-1783, under the influence of Thomas Jefferson.
