The NOI Notice Of Intent

For the first two hours, the Honors College Forum discussed many topics dealing with current events and internal matters. The first discussion was about the Oregon shooting that happened recently. People had genuine concerns if something like that would happen in North-Harris. It was pointed out that the school now has a rule to not allow people to carry weapons even with a concealed handgun license. That brought up the issue of gun laws and for the most part everyone agreed banning guns won’t solve anything or allowing anybody to freely own a gun. The NOI, Notice of Intent, is a form that the college president must read and approve in order to even start any sort of experimenting and data collection within the college with human subjects. If he doesn’t approve of it, I can forget about the IRB. It sounds easy to do. I just need to briefly explain what the experiment is about and how will I go about conducting it. I can’t be too specific about how the experiment will be conducted because I need enough ambiguity to allow any sort of changes to be made without any problem. I need to submit a good copy to my psychology by October the 10 and get it approved by her, so that Kyser can get the NOI sheets to the president as early as he possibly can. The IRB application itself is much harder to complete. It is a board of people who make sure that any sort of human related research will not harm anyone. They basically make sure what I will do will can cause any legal issues. I need to have everything perfectly written, and to make sure that I list all the procedures and items I will use during the experiment. One little error, badly written statement, or something that seems unethical or harmful to humans will get the application pushed back. I still have about a week to work on it, so I need to stay in touch with my psychology professor and work the finer details of my

It starts ten minutes before the class period is due to end. After my partner and I conclude a powerpoint presentation to the class, Mrs.Kassir has us skim an article which references the issue of abortion in Mexico. The entirety of everyone's lives have just been full of moments that build on who they are as a person; if they are a participatory citizen, a personally responsible citizen, or a justice oriented citizen. This semester has been full of learning things that are actually helpful to direct who each student will be as a person later in life. That day, with about fifty other incoming first-years, we watched a presentation on Title IX as part of the Summer Bridge Program.…

A big topic that has risen in the past year is racism. Kathleen McCarthy, President of Smith College, sent an email to her students regarding to the deaths of two boys, Eric Garner and Michael Brown. In the email, she stated that all lives matter, this caused many students to criticize her for referring to the opposition of the saying “Black Lives Matter”. Many police officers today are now being criticized and presumed guilty when approaching any black man that is in the wrong. This kind of behavior should not be happening because it is causing our law enforcement not to be able to do their jobs to the best of their abilities.…

My take on recent history Write a personal essay in which you discuss your views on a recent event or series of events Not too long ago, while browsing the internet I stumbled upon a short story that has really stuck with me. It was about a man describing the day he bought a gun and left it out on the porch and it did not kill anyone. The man was angry and thought he had the laziest gun in the world. It was barely a short story, really, it was just a few lines, yet every now and again I think myself thinking about it. I remember in the comments people referred to this story as stupid and how it did not make sense.…
