Have you ever heard your parents laugh at your dreams? I was furious when they laughed at my goal of making it to the NBA. It’s like having your best friend betray you for no reason. At first I was confused as to why they would laugh, but I started to think about this one thing. They think that because they have never played sports and that they are short that I will never be tall enough to play. There were so many emotions racing through me at this point. I almost had to walk out of the restaurant because I felt like I was going to have a mental breakdown.

The barrier that I have faced is genetic disadvantages. My parents are not that tall, they do not play sports, and they have health problems. My goal in life is to make the NBA, but most
