The myth of rags to riches has been mentioned in so many households around the world, that like any other story that is told by different people, it changes every time someone tells it. Some people will hear that a person was lucky enough to win the lottery, or somebody finally got the job they thought they would never get. And there’s proof that show it. Many people have been lucky enough to gain riches, almost over night. For example, many people over the years have won the lottery, sometimes multiple people a year win the lottery (Doherty et al 447). These people are believed to have luck. Their lucky because all they did was buy a lottery ticket and fill in random numbers and the numbers they chose led them to great riches. So if that can happen to random people, who is to say that luck does not take part in gaining wealth? One’s individual opportunity includes, a person’s location, as well as their education and the economic status into which they are born in. In some cases, location takes a big part in allowing someone to achieve moving up a class. “Sometimes people move to different countries, like for example to the U.S because they believe that there are more opportunities for success there” (Anbinder 742). In this article, Irish people move away from their country and into the United States in order to isolate themselves from their life of poverty and find new opportunities. When people move to a different country it is not always by choice, but by necessity. “When a story is told about the “rags to riches” myth, the person usually has a rural background and comes from a foreign or third world country” (Naveh). The conditions of the countries that these people come from are not always the best, so they search for a better life in other countries that offer more jobs and better living conditions.
