Film Analysis: When Harry Met Sally

The myth of love I would like to use for this report comes from the movie When Harry Met Sally. The movie is a romantic comedy that portrays a relationship between a man (Harry) and a woman (Sally) who realized that they both maintain opposite point of views on life, especially relationship between men and women. Harry maintains his belief that it isn’t possible for a men and woman to be friends while Sally argues otherwise. Throughout the movie they both portray different approaches on the myth of love. Harry and Sally relationship shifts from casual acquaintances that are not ford of each other and ending in a marriage rooted in a deep and meaningful friendship which demonstrated how these two characters were able to develop their relationship over time and somehow persuade themselves into a different cultural truth value about love.
In this movie, we are being reminded of our modern society belief that lovers (men and women) can’t be friends which explores the point of view men

We believe that lovers must deeply know each other to the point where they become one person as a whole (not physically); this is similar to classical mythology belief as well, for example in the King James Bible (book of genesis 2:24) it says “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”. In my opinion this verse summarizes what Ovid does with the myth of love in the metamorphoses, when Ceyx and Alycone are both turned into a birds as it says in book XI “The gods changed both to a birds; the same strange fate they shared, and still their love endured, the bonds of wedlock bound them still, though they were birds” The fact that they were changed into bird shoes just how much they became one as a whole through

Once in a while, there comes a movie that relates to a cultural strife in a canny yet almost natural tactic; “The Kids Are All Right” is one such movie. Directed by Lisa Cholodenko, the movie’s premise begins with a lesbian couple living with their two children in a spacious house in suburban Southern California. As the movie progresses, each character shows its individual personality traits that makes the movie even more relatable. Now, shifting the focus towards the main idea of the movie, “The Kids Are All Right” depicts a dysfunctional American family in the entirety of its normalcy. Like any other household, the parents are shown to have insecurities and a rising communication barrier.…

Aleksandra Tyzkiewicz Social Psychology 9.08.2015 INTRODUCTION Many people have been strongly attracted to someone, maybe even in love. The main problem is that these two are separated by a very thin line, as a matter of fact many people confuse attraction with love. These people believe that the feelings they have for the other person are so strong that they passed the attraction phase and walked into what is so called “love”. These feelings usually lead to relationships and this is what psychologists have been trying to explain; they say that a relationship is characterized by “love, care, commitment and intimacy” and only then it can be classified as consummate love, which means that all of these characteristics are present. The passage that I found most interesting in The Symposium is related to the speech of Aristophanes, which defines the changing nature of love as a mythical and biological definition in the human condition: “First you must learn what human nature is in the beginning and what has happened to it since, because long ago our nature was not what it is now” (Plato p.25, 189d). In this passage, Aristophanes is defining the mythical story of the differences between human beings in the biology of sex, which defined the three sexes as two-fold male, the two-fold female, and the male-female. However, Zeus cast a lighting bolt and vided these beings into the duality of male and female sexes. This is a fascinating account of the mythical argument brought…

It is likely that Kate and Leopold could be not the most top-shelf romantic comedy movie but it could be considered as one of the most wide-spread during the early of 21st century. Specifically, although the plot seems to be predictable and sketchy, mostly viewers still vote for this film for two main reasons. Firstly, the viewers are probably drawn into the new scenarior that depicts the love between a man – Leopold in 1870’s and a woman in the 21st century due to a time incident. Accordingly, romantic scene through the movie can boil any fan girl’s heart in favor of this genre.…

Throughout the course of history, the human race has loved. Love, some might argue, is a waste of time, while others might say that love is powerful and helpful. True love is defined as love for each other through hardship, which is controlled by a divine being. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the author, Shakespeare, makes it clear that there is true love in the piece, since Oberon and his court of fairies serve as divine beings that meddle with mortal lives. Shakespeare’s connecting to the classics includes the fact that the people believed in these divine beings.…

Love is most often described as the true driving force behind the transformations in Metamorphoses. Ovid discusses love through the many stories he tells however the reoccurring theme is that love, despite its glory, often comes with despair and anguish. And that this has monumental effects on our human nature. Ovid shows in the metamorphosis that human nature, although pure in its innocence, can be easily tainted by love and to a lesser extent by the gods, who use love as a tool, as a weapon, to control…

Is there eternal sunshine in the spotless mind? This is the question posed by writers Charlie Kaufman, Michel Gondry and Pierre Bismuth in their movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This movie, directed by Gondry, explores the idea that feelings and emotions are more powerful than memories, and that if we erased all of our memories, we would still possess the feelings and emotions that were created by those memories. The movie was inspired by a male friend of Bismuth who said that he would like to have all memory of his girlfriend erased. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind tells a story about two people, Joel and Clementine, who are in a bad relationship and eventually break up.…

Through the film version of Dickens’s work, Cuarón makes an incomparable adaptation of Great Expectations, but without being able to get rid of the literary original version of Dickens and even leaning in David Lean’s former adaptation. TYPE OF ADAPTATION This adaptation is a perfect example of a freely adapted novel. This approach considers the source simply as "raw materials", as a "pretext" for inspiration for a work of cinematic art in its own right. There are taken certain situations, characters... from the original literary text like a starting point to create a completely different work by altering the structure and the artistic vision of his author.…
