Frederick Brooks is a computer architect and scientist, and software engineer. He was born in 1931 in a city of North Carolina, called Durham. Brooks went to Duke University and acquired a Bachelor degree in physics. He also finished Harvard University and obtained a PhD in Applied Mathematics there. He worked at IBM (International Business Machines) and was responsible of the 360 IBM system and OS 360 development. To add, scientist also worked on the IBM 7030 Stretch, which is a transistorized supercomputer. It is said that a phrase “computer architecture” is founded by Brooks at the time he worked at IBM. In this paper, I will talk about the book that Brooks wrote, which is about his work experience at IBM and is called “The Mystical Man Month”.

In the last chapter of the book, Brooks reminds the reader that software engineering is a very challenging activity, which requires a lot of effort and time. To summarize, I think that “The Mythical Man Month” is a highly informative and absorbing book. The author clearly explains what the difference between software engineering and building processes is. The whole process of programming is longer and more tedious. People who work in this industry often underestimate the complexity and time required for the projects, which makes the work longer than it actually should be.
