Some believe they died from disease, hunger, or Indian attacks. When the English came over, they were being exposed to an all new environment. They could have caught a disease that soon spread throughout the colony killing all of them. The Indians would have been exposed and immune to the disease giving them the advantage to survive ("The Mysterious Lost Colony of Roanoke Island "). No evidence has been found to prove this to be true. Another theory is that they reverted to cannibalism. White had returned o get more supplies, which means they were running low of food. It is thought that they toke themselves out of existence due to starvation. There was no evidence that the colonists used these methods but there was evidence that it was used by colonists of Jonestown, Virginia in 1609 ("5 Theories on the Lost Colony of Roanoke" par. 8). Some settlers from other colonies heard stories from the Croatoan tribe about the evil spirits. The spirit was known as the Reptilian Devil. It took over towns by manifesting itself into elements. The Indians believed that a dark spirit would possess a town causes the members to go crazy and attack each other until they were all dead. The tribe reported strange phenomenon such as birds falling from the sky and large amounts of animals dying after the colonists vanished. (par. 11). It all started with a colony settling in the new world after Queen Elizabeth I granted a charter. The goal was to gain new land that would further expand their country. But that’s not all that came out of this. Even though there are many different theories constructed to explain what happened to the lost settlers of the Roanoke Colony such as dying or moving away, there will never be a set truth to what happened and that leaves a sort of mystery to the world.
