The Mysterious Benedict Society Essay

It is often regarded by scientists that someone’s personality is determined by their DNA. In those strands that state the color of someone’s hair and eyes, also decides whether or not a person is pre-genetically disposed to being “successful.” However, I have a vivid memory of where I became aware of the word “success,” although at the time, I probably only found the definition intriguing. The story was titled The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart and it was though this story of four special children sent on a mission by a narcoleptic named Nicholas Benedict that I became aware of my own powers and weaknesses. The same as a fairytale and multiple other stories, there is a fight between good and evil, however this particular story was the first book that I had read that talked of a believable evil. In the plot, Reynie, Kate, Constance, and Sticky are sent by Nicolas Benedict to Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened to stop the head of the institute, Mr. Ledroptha Curtain, from taking over the world by mind control. For the first time that I had been aware, there were no giants, no fairy god mothers, no wizards, no witches, there were only humans and they were evil. However, these children did not back down, no matter how dire the situation was or how frightened they were. At the time, I was being bullied by a teacher who did not like me for reasons that elude me even now. She would be the one to get me in trouble even if I was not perpetrator and one time I remember that she made me give up my seat in the cafeteria so that she could sit.
