Baby Girl: The Myers-Briggs Personality Test

Improved Essays
A baby girl was born in Clinton, Iowa around 10pm on December 24th, 1998. She was born with a blank slate, a brand new person, vulnerable to her surroundings. She had the ability to be whoever she wanted to be and develop into her own person. That baby girl was me. As we grow older, we develop, even our personalities. The majority of us think we know who we are, but do we really? Many of us have gone into work fields and started doing things because we THINK that’s who we are, when in reality it isn’t. Over the years, although, personality tests have been developed to help with this problem. The Myers-Briggs personality test or MBTI, is just one example. A woman with the name Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs developed it in the …show more content…
On the other hand, those who are more based around feeling normally considered other people’s emotions and opinions when they try to come up with a solution. (Cherry, 2014). The Myers-Briggs test had said that I was more feeling, which I would tend to agree with. More often than not, I put other people’s needs and desires ahead of mine. An example would be when this girl had done something to me that was wrong. I wanted to give her what she deserved and make the playing field a bit more even, but as soon as I started my revenge I had to stop because I knew that it would make her feel bad and it wasn’t worth it in the long run. I feel that this part of my personality is something that I get from my parents. Both of them will bend over backwards for people even if it causes them physical or emotional damage. Another aspect of the feeling scale is that these people, overall, tend to be very friendly and open-minded, which I believe I am. I always am up to try new things and talking to new people. Every time I go to a public event, I go out of my way to meet new people and have a conversation with them. Instead of being rude to someone if they bump into me, I politely smile and tell them it’s okay. I always taught to care for others. This lesson has followed me throughout my entire life. Whether putting other people’s …show more content…
The MBTI said that I would do my best in a career where I got the chance to help and interact with others. A few of the possible careers it showed I should look into are; counselor, teacher, psychologist, social worker, human resources manager, sales representative, and manager. Overall, I feel that this test was quite accurate. Most of the scale measurement seemed to define me the way I would have described. This project hasn’t really given me any new perspective because I already knew all of the stuff I learned throughout the entire process. None of the careers stated in the MBTI was one that I was considering pursuing before I took the test, although. Regardless, I don’t think the results have influenced me in anyway. I don’t really think I will use the information I gathered to help me determine a path for my future career. Even though the test is used widely and meets the standards for its validity, it is still just a test and I refuse to let a few questions dictate my future. I govern my future goals instead of having my decisions be influenced by outside forces. I know what I want and I will not let anything change

The writer in the story "Discovering Yourself with Myers-Briggs" instantly caught my attention in the first paragraph leaving a questionnaire for you to answer. In my opinion the author motivates the reader's diligence to discover what these questions mean. Wendy goes into great detail in discussing the methods of determining one's personality through Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test categorized in three dimensions: extroversion versus introversion, sensation versus intuition, and thinking versus feeling. She also gives a lot of factual information and breaks down what each dimension means for that particular personality. I think the conclusion is summed up nicely, she does a good job of linking the main points in order and characterizing…

It is published through Psychological Assessment Resource and is a multidimensional objective inventory designed to measure psychopathology and treatment planning for various psychopathological conditions. The current PAI form is not a revision of normative data, test form, or interpretative guidelines from the original 1991 edition. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a great assessment tool to help one gain insight into their personality type. Having that insight can be vital in finding a career that one will be satisfied in and it can also help on to identify what career options may not be a good fit. The MBTI does this by looking at four sets of traits and finding which ones are the most like you. There is extraversion (E) or introversion (I), sensing (S) or intuition (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P). My results came out to ESTJ.…

As a result of taking the MBTI, Strengths Finder and Holland Code, I know now what I need in a work environment and have an idea of occupations that would suit my personality. Given my strengths and personalty traits, I can now search for jobs that require the skills I am good at as well as match my personality traits to jobs that need specific individuals. In class we also received a sheet that listed several occupations and the holland code that was associated with that particular job. I can use my personalized holland code and determine the occupations that best suit my code. All three of these investigations provided me with information that I can now apply when searching for a job as each particular inventory provided me with particulars about my work…

After answering a series of questions, the results are compiled to determine if the person is sensing (S) or intuitive (I) , thinking (T) or feeling (F), introverted (I) or extroverted (E), judging (J) or perceiving (P). With the fore mentioned possible trait combinations, there are sixteen personality types possible. The test concluded that I could be four of the personality types due to the extremely slight percentage difference within two of the traits. As you come into this world, your identity is a blank canvas, yet to be painted to your own unique image. Yet, as we slowly grow, learning how to speak and how to walk, we are so quickly attributed with certain characteristics and traits. From the moment of birth, people are compared to each other. My two optimal career choices, a political scientist and a lawyer, were both on the list of least common careers for my MBTI results. I strongly disagree with this. I also mildly disagree with the labeled challenge that I’m not willing to “sell” myself during interviews. In my experience, I do a sufficient job of letting my best qualities show, though I can also recognize the legitimacy of their argument. Another issue I had with the results was its claim that, also in an interview, to certain personalities I would come across as being insufficiently tasked oriented.…

In Julian Baggini’s Ted Talk presentation, he takes a somewhat philosophical approach when discussing what constitutes becoming an unique individual. Baggini asks his audience to consider the standing premise that all have an intrinsic nature that remains unchanged throughout one’s life. He then continues by making the point that almost all are intrigued with learning more about themselves and, because of this curiosity, are presented with many opportunities to pursue this knowledge. Gaining more information about oneself is almost always tempting. Just as examples given in the text, a few of the many ways that Baggini mentions to do so are those random horoscopes provided more for entertainment than information, and the professionally designed scientific personality profile tests.…

The MBTI is a psychometric questionnaire that measures how one sees the world and makes conclusions. People experience the world using 4 sets of psychological functions - sensation, intuition, feeling and thinking. Whether the person taking the test is more an introvert or extrovert, whether decision made is through feeling or thinking whether one likes to collect details by sensing or intuition or whether one likes to form an impression of the world through perceiving or judging. Personality dictates our lives by molding the definition of “who we are” as a person—both as a reflection of oneself from another’s perspective and as a self-defined being. In a way one’s personality is like the stubborn stalk of a plant that has sprouted and grown inside you without showing. You can grapple, twist and bend it as much as you desire but it always seems to break away and grow back exactly the way it was. My personality is neither of the most desirable nor detestable kind, yet it does seem to sway my life in many ways to shape it the way it is. Despite the erratic nature of my personality, the possibility of observing the open, passionate side has not faded.…
