There is one special day on Prince Edward Island that all the inhabitants look forward to. This day is the Mussels Festival day, where fishermen from all parts of the region bring in their finest mussels recipe and compete with other locals. Stuart has finished in second place the past four years behind his neighbor, Steve, and wants to do something different this time around. His plan is to sail to an island far off the coast, where rumor has it that the largest and juiciest of mussels can be found.
On the morning of the festival, Stuart wakes up early and prepares for the journey ahead. He makes sure not to wake up the rest of his family, in hopes of surprising them when he gets back. He quickly packs the supplies he needs …show more content…
“Perhaps this is what heaven is like,” Stuart thought to himself. He opens his eyes and is surprised by what he sees--Steve. “Steve? Are you dead too?”
Steve chuckles. “I see you found my lucky spot Stuart. You’re a fortunate man. I almost didn’t come here today because the weather wasn’t looking too good, but I changed my mind at the last minute. Good thing for you that I did, or this would be your last day.”
“How did you survive the storm?” Stuart asks.
“Easy.” Steve replies. “The key is to stay near the shore in case something happens. I can row there for safety to wait out a sudden storm. It’s something that just comes with experience.”
“Oh, and too bad about your mussels. Good luck at the contest.” Steve says as he walks away casually.
Half the day is wasted, and Stuart is no closer to his mussels than when the day started, and his boat is now severely damaged!
Stuart takes his impaired boat out again to the same island hoping for better results. He works as quickly as he can collecting his precious mussels while remembering Steve’s advice. He scurries back with just enough time and mussels for the
