The Music Man is a 1957 musical written by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey about a fast-talking marching band salesman who swindles an Iowa stubborn town into buying his made up boy’s band. Along the way, he falls for a Librarian (first as a ploy, then for real) who sees right through him and therefore wants nothing to do with him. However, when she sees the joy he brings her troubled little brother as well as the rest of the town, she decides that he is not as bad as he seems. This show was revived in 1980 and 2000 and two movies were released in 1962 and 2003.

This show features a female lead who only dreams of a man who truly respects her and her intelligence. She does not need to be swept off her feet and does not worry about what

A very successful and famous comedian and creator of Family Guy, MacFarlane is terribly quick-witted and full of the charisma necessary to play this role. Theatre Mania has written that “Seth MacFarlane wants to do Broadway. Or, more accurately, wants you to know he could do Broadway...if he wanted to” (Kaye). MacFarlane’s style of comedy and charm would make him an ideal traveling salesman with a heart of gold. He is also no stranger to the show and has incorporated songs from it in his TV shows and performed them live. This well-known star would sell millions of tickets to fans of his shows all around the united states. As the leading lady, I have cast Laura Osnes, Broadway’s sweetheart. Osnes is a very experienced Broadway actress and has starred in several recent shows such as Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Bandstand, Grease, Bonnie & Clyde, and Anything Goes. She has a gorgeous soprano that lends perfectly to Marian’s songs. While of course being able to play a woman falling in love, she can also play the feisty cold and unforgiving librarian who does not take anything from anyone. Her star power will bring in the true musical theatre fans while Seth brings in the general public. Harold Hill’s funny sidekick will be played by none other than Josh Gad! Gad is another Broadway veteran who has also appeared in very successful films. His presence is perfect for attracting kids

There was a time, before sound was introduced to film and culture was hand picked for society, when stars were born and bred on the stage. Actors who grew an understanding of their craft by clocking in rehearsal hours, feeding off an audience during live performances, and praying to the right gods, were signed on for a starring role in a film: an advancement in their career. Today, the craft of acting and the medium in which an actor is showcased have changed landscapes and the up-and-coming “starving actor” is struggling for work. Casting for film has long been equated to having the right “look” and there seems to only be two ways to get your feet on a Broadway stage: insane talent and luck or celebrity status. Broadway’s marquees have historically been crowded by celebrity names that draw audiences and drive ticket prices up, and with recent seasons, it seems more impossible than ever to see a green name receive the top bill— raising concerns that big names are cast for profit and not artistic integrity.…

Plato, a famous Greek Philosopher once said, “I would teach children music, physics and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning.” As a society, we thrive off the arts, most specifically music. No one can honestly say they have gone a few hours without thinking about, humming, whistling, singing, or even playing a song. Yes, drumming your pencil or pen against anything counts. Why would society deny their children the amazing opportunity to learn something this special?…

Two of Broadway’s most talented voices emerged from the hit musical, “Wicked.” Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth both had been in broadway shows long before but wicked was the one that blew them into stardom. The musical displays numerous singing acts that tell the story of a girl who grew up slightly different from the rest and a stereotypical popular girl that tried to help her gain her confidence. Idina and Kristen’s voices are like no other in the musical because their voices bring our qualities in their character that complement the character so well. The dark alto tones of Idina plays off of the envy and awkwardness her character constantly lives with.…

I hesitate to compare the practical application of the Science of Mind teachings with the fictional Think System described in the play, and movie, The Music Man; however, there are undeniable parallels in our teachings. The Music Man is the story of Professor Harold Hill, a traveling salesman who sold children's band instruments with the promise that he would organize them into a marching band, and teach them how to play before the instruments were even delivered. He called his method of instruction The Think System. He hummed a tune, and told the children to think of playing that tune, to hear themselves playing it in their mind. They were to think the song all day long.…

It has found itself at the center of this outbreak of musical theatre from its once niche market to popular culture. The show introduced completely diverse casting, the musical genres of Hip-Hop and R&B, and the adaptation of an unlikely story into an unlikely medium. These introductions to the musical theatre community were an important step in the way of becoming a more inclusive, accessible, and innovative art form for the population. However, Leslie Odom Jr., one of the stars made famous by this production, stated in a recent interview that even though Broadway has just finished arguably its most diverse, innovative, and game-changing season in history, he does not see the future of musical theatre reflecting these advents at all. He fears a future series of Broadway seasons where producers…

Every time people think of music they think of something they listen to when driving around, but what most people don't understand is that it can actually help reduce your problems. Music is always used to help use for example if we are stressed and we can’t take it any longer, or when we don’t have anyone to go to we can always turn to music, and lastly if we go through a tough time music therapy can help get back to normal. When stress turns into suicide things can get a little out of hand, like for example in 1997, Darrell McDaniels was at his all time high, but then all of a sudden when he was touring he fell into negative downward spiral. He then went to thinking, “Is this all there is?”,then the thought of suicide came across his mind, and he decided that when he gets back to his hotel he was going to kill himself. When he got to his…
