A blonde-haired woman visits homicide detective John Carnes at Burlington’s police department to report a rape attempt. Thirty-five-year-old Carnes does not take her words seriously but when she is murdered a week later, he realizes what a huge mistake he made. After the murder of a second blonde-haired-woman and the kidnapping of psychologist, Dr. Helen Stewart, Carnes manages to unravel the case; the man he is searching is a naturalized American called Bill Puttock or Vasily Gerasimov as his real name is. His parents had left Russia when he was just one-year old, while today he is a gynecologist and an aspiring politician. He is married to Sheila Williams, a rich woman from Scarsdale NY.
