If You Were Sentenced To Life For Rape What Would You Do?

If you were sentenced to life for rape what would you do? Especially if you’re not the real suspect. July 25, 1984 in Burlington NC, Jennifer Thompson home was broken into and a suspect was armed with a knife and told her shut up or he will kill her and she was raped. Jennifer studied the features of the rapist so if she lives he’ll go to prison. Jennifer tricked her rapist into thinking she was going to fix him a drink, and she ran out the home. Later that night her suspect raped another women about half a mile away, I thought to myself that he’s coldblooded. Jennifer chose Ronald Cotton in a line up as her suspect as number 5. Pretrial process proceed such as right …show more content…
I’m happy he didn’t get depressed and just give up , he would’ve been locked up for life for no reason. Although he was freed Jennifer took 11 years from Ronald at the age of 22, so basically until he was 34 . As a man going through such a thing he could’ve came out with anger issues , disliking women, angry, or abusive yet he didn’t and even forgave Jennifer . I wonder did Jennifer ever accept him as a true friend and Bobby as a real suspect ? Did she ever write Bobby? What does Ronald and Jennifer talk about? Does his family truly forgive …show more content…
Being that Ronald and Bobby look so much alike Jennifer had no choice but to choose Ronald . Ronald didn’t believe that innocent men could be convicted until it was done to him, Just like Ronald didn’t know of this issue going on neither did I. If it was done to me I wouldn’t have thought to keep going for a try. That was very impressive to me and Jennifer angered me a bit as well. I understand she was angry as a women yet, if the court is trying to retrial then obviously something is missing in the case, I feel the whole court system was agreeable and working with both the victim and Ronald well. If Bobby Poole wouldn’t have told other inmates I also feel Ronald wouldn’t have wanted to try

Months before this court case, people were saying, “Casey Anthony who?” Then the media portrayed it as a much bigger deal than it really is. Everyday someone gets murdered and the media chooses this one case and provide an unfair bias against Casey Anthony and basically brainwashing the public into thinking that Casey Anthony is a senseless, guilty murderer. Although some might say that the Jury made the right decision on the case because of the lack of evidence of the actual conviction of Casey Anthony. Media sources that say the jury did the right thing state that there is no reason to be prejudiced against evidence simply because it is circumstantial evidence.…

The other pieces of evidence would not have been enough to convict Ronald Cotton of the crime. Faulty procedure of the photo line up and live line up lead to Cottons arrest. During both line ups Jennifer did not know that her attacker could have been missing completely to the lineup. The false assumption that her attacker was definitely in the lead up lead her to feel that she had to pick someone. Another faulty procedure was during the photo line up, after Jennifer chose Cotton she asked the officer that helped her if she did good to which the officer told her she did great.…

The detective also told her “ we thought that might be the guy”(37). She thought she had won, that she selected the right person and would keep him from hurting other people. She was wrong. Even during Ronald's second trial, when Bobby Poole, the real perpetrator was put in the presence of Jennifer, her mind refused to accept any other image because her memory had been replaced with the image of Ronald Cotton raping her. Jennifer and Ronald's story demonstrates the importance of eyewitness testimony and shows how the misidentification of a perpetrator can lead to the conviction of an innocent…

In the story of The Ransom of Red Chief Trial I believe that the Defense Team had the most evidence bc they gave more evidence showing how something was wrong with Red Chief and that he has a image that he is a Indian/Cowboy and that he followed Bill and Sam on his own< but however the Prosecutors won the trial. I think the prosecutors gave more evidence from the story/movie bc the defense team made up evidence to convince the jury that Red Chief was having a case of ADHD and had problem.. Yes I think the verdict was fair bc they both gave amazing evidence to persuade the jury to believe them..…

Ron Cotton didn 't even fit the height description of the criminal. The worse part I think happened to him is the police stated several times that the women were raped by the same guy, so why would he be taken back to court and convicted with a second life sentence for the rape of Mary 's rape. When Ron 's blood type does not match the blood found at the second crime scene. Mary could not even Identify her attacker. So the only evidence linking Ron to the second rape was speculation and same MO.…
