I watched a video about policing and within that video Dr. George Kelling went into detail about "The five big ideas that transformed policing". Those five included one, the way police handled people, the police should be concerned about the problem rather than the incident at hand. The second was something he called "broken windows" which meant to fix the little problems as well as the big ones, he pointed out that small things matter as well. The third idea was that they had a movement from consent to collaboration which he called community policing, it 's important to communicate and to have everyone on the same page. Number four was compstat, this means an administration mechanism for creating accountability and he explains how crucial this was/is. The fifth and final Idea was something they called "pulling lever", which means a small number of offenders create a massive amount of offenses, and everyone knows who they are but no one was talking to each other. Everyone needs to be on it and again be on the same page, and it will help to target those serious offenders. I liked this video because it was an insider 's perspective. I feel like so many people are against police and people talk down to and about them with no understanding of how much good they actually do for us.
