Precious was unsuccessful in school and taken advantage by her own parents. Her mom was low and abusive and wanted the same lifestyle for her daughter, to be hopeless. She wanted her to be unhappy, uneducated, and poor. By having the support from an inspiring and caring teacher, she not only improved her reading and writing skills, but she made her become a strong and independent women. Precious was willing to fight for her rights and escape from her corrupt mother and father only because of the empowerment of education. The scene that impacted me the most was when Precious’ mom brutally, physically, and verbally attacked her when her school principal influenced her to go to another school to continue her education. This shows that her mother had fear that if Precious became educated she would've escaped her abuse.
