In the United states education has ranged from preparing youth to become lifelong learners , enabling them to live in a democracy, and empowering them to be members of the twenty first century workplace. But to put this all into perspective, the main focus and definition of education is to gain the fullest development of a learning experience. Education is not only gaining intelligence but it is also building of a moral character that is principle centered. Media portrays the importance of education for independence and success. The film Precious made me truly realize the significance of education. Precious was unsuccessful in school and taken advantage by her own parents. Her mom was low and abusive and wanted the same lifestyle for her daughter, to be hopeless. She wanted her to be unhappy, uneducated, and poor. By having the support from an inspiring and caring teacher, she not only improved her reading and writing skills, but she made her become a strong and independent women. Precious was willing to fight for her rights and escape from her corrupt mother and father only because of the empowerment of education. The scene that impacted me the most was when Precious’ mom brutally, physically, and verbally attacked her when her school principal influenced her to go to another school to continue her education. This shows that her mother had fear that if Precious became educated she would've escaped her abuse. When someone watches this movie learns the true benefit of education and how it can lead to happiness and and success. The movie “ Precious” is a very scary movie because it unfolds a reality that many unprivileged children face in l life. Young children are kept imprisoned by their own parents and the way to do this is to keep them uneducated. Education gave Precious the courage to stand up against her mother. Through her schooling she was able to realize that her mother was taking advantage of her.
