Essay On The Movie Parenthood

All families have their difficulties, some more than others, and some different, but in my case I consider my family to be fairly ordinary. The movie Parenthood is a great example of how four contrasting families, all related, can be completely different. The movie can fully describe a lot of typical families around the world, I didn’t feel that my family related to any of the families in the movie; I felt that there was a message that related to my family. One message in the movie that stood out to me was: no matter the rough patch the families go through, they always come back together. Another message was: no matter how different the families were, they always were similar in some way. Both messages convey how difficulties and differences among families push us to become better families, much like my own. About six months ago, my grandpa had died of cancer, but before that tragedy, my family was definitely in a rough patch. My dad and his six other siblings are spread out across the Midwest, therefore it is hard to come together as one big group. I was not convinced that the families in the movie resembled mine, but I believe the messages in the movie helped me connect examples to my own family. Even though families go through rocky situations, most of the time, they come back together. My family wasn’t wild about the idea of coming together, but when my grandpa was sick, they needed to. In my experience, I believe it was the way that my grandparents raised their kids and how today my aunt and uncles are raising us in a similar setting.
