Love Actually Analysis

“If you look for it, I 've got a sneaky feeling you 'll find that love actually is all around.” The movie “Love Actually” is based in England during Christmas time, as the date is set 5 weeks before Christmas. The people in this movie are a diverse group, who all face their own struggles, hardships and tough times - all involving love. Some are dealing with grief, others are dealing with family members, and we watch as some of these people form relationships while others are finding themselves changing in their relationships or moving on from them. I counted ten different “relationships” that were ongoing throughout the movie, and while it was difficult to keep track of all of them, I decided I am only going to focus on the five I believe are the most significant for this specific area of concentration. It is a decent sized wedding, and we see many of the other characters in this movie in the pews of the church. They are an interracial couple, as Juliet is Caucasian and Peter is African American. Peter’s best friend and best man, Mark, is secretly in love with Juliet, but Juliet and Peter believe that he dislikes Juliet. On Christmas Eve, Mark stops by Juliet’s home to see her, and pretends to be carol singers. He announces his love for her on large cardboard pieces with his words on it. This creates a turning point for Juliet’s relationship because for someone she believed hated her is now expressing how much he loves her. Mark accepts the fact that she is happily married, and that he cannot be the one to cause any type of infidelity in the relationship, so he moves on but after receiving a kiss from Juliet. This situation can be considered concealment because neither Mark or Juliet will ever tell her husband about how he feels nor she kissed
