Examples Of Stereotypes In The Movie Crash

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Achievement has no color.” He was referring to how terrible racial stereotypes are. Stereotypes does not help mankind, but tears us apart. My definition of stereotypes, is prejudgment of somebody based on their looks, religion, or race. In the movie “Crash” there are a lot of terrible stereotypes. Crash is very complicated at first because it switches back and forth between several key stories. But of the key story characters connect at the end in some sort of way. One of the stories that start in the beginning of the movie cops found a dead African american. Detective Waters is on the crime scene investigating the body. Then the movie jumps back in time. But later on Detective Waters finds out it was his younger …show more content…
Then the movie changes to the scene when Anthony and Peter are leaving a Italian restaurant talking how racist the servers were. Then they proceed to rob at gunpoint the districts of attorney 's SUV. After that the movie changes scene to Rick the districts of attorney’s house where his wife Jean is getting worked up. She thinks the Locksmith is a Latino gangbanger who is going to sell her key to thieves. Soon after that the group of African Americans hit and run over Choi who is trying to get into his van. Then the movie changes to the scene when Cameron a African american hollywood director and wife getting pulled over. The Officers Ryan and Hanson pulled them over for suspicious activity. It turns out that Officer Ryan sexually assaults Cameron 's wife Christine which is also African american. Camron could not do anything about it because he did not want to get arrested. This movie Crash shows prime examples of stereotypes. Basically every character 's experiences social stereotypes in the film crash. Anybody could be …show more content…
The locksmith turns out to be Daniel. Jean is very apprehensive because Daniel is a Latino. Jean interrupts Rick and says, “She wants the locks changed again.” Jean continues, “Maybe the next time they won’t send a gang member to change them.” She thinks that Daniel will sell the locks to fellow gang members because of his “prison tattoos.”
Moreover, another scene that shows stereotypes is when Anthony and Peter are leaving the restaurant. They are walking down the street approaching Rick and Jean. When Jean Sees that they are going to walk pass Anthony and Peter she clinches onto Rick’s arm for protection. Jean is judging Anthony and Jean on how the are dressed. On top of that they were African American. According to Anthony, “She got colder as soon as she saw us.” If Anthony and Jean were white do you think Jean would of reacted that

Crash Coogan is the 3rd most monstrous, TRIBEless shell of a person after I have read a book on. This is behind a rapist and a woman who killed her niece, daughter, and large sections of her dominion’s population. The reason that he is barely behind these savages, is the large amounts of horrible actions he does to the decent people of his middle school. Although, at least, Coogan only affected a few with this behavior.…

Stereotypes of people of color and minority races have been around for many years, and have proved themselves to dominate the perception of people of color in everyday life. Films portray people of color as they are perceived by white Americans, not how they truly are, unique. Film has only dirtied the minority races’ image over time, though if the movies were not made by other Americans, they were more accurate to their race. Stereotypes of Asians have been around for a long time, ever since Asians were introduced. Stereotypes such as Asian students are smarter, Asian women are more exotic and tend to wait on men, Asian women are submissive, Asian people are all from China, and many others.…

During this scene, we see the female passenger is assaulted by the police officer when he searches her. This assault is an example of gender struggle, where the man is shown as so powerful he can just assault the woman under false pretenses during a body search. These two characters are shown later in the movie when the woman is in a fiery car crash. The same officer who had assaulted her is the first responder to the crash and he is now portrayed as the woman’s rescuer. The scene is the classic damsel in distress and this police officer is there to save her.…

The impact of stereotypes depicted in the media, still has an effect on individuals in society today. As a young black African American women who often speaks her mind, with a very strong personality, people may very well stereotype me as a “Angry Black Women” commonly depicted on black television shows seen today. “Schemas of how people are likely to behave based simply on the groups to which they belong are known as stereotypes.” (Feist, G. & Rosenberg, E.2012). This scene is an example of power between white and black and also dislike of blacks. The only reason the cop doesn?t like blacks is because his father worked as a janitor his whole life and when he saved enough to start his own company, he had twenty-three workers, all black, paid them equal wages when no one did for thirty years and overnight, his father loses everything because the city council decided to give minorities a city contract and his father never blamed the black people. The other scene was in the lady?s office in the clinic. The cop asked the lady if his father needed a surgery if she can write an authorize letter for him. She didn?t agree to the authorization because the cop said some unpleasant things to her.…

Discrimination is a prevalent issue in society that has decreased over time, but is still occurring. It can be found in more subtle ways than in the past when Whites had their own water fountain to drink out of and Blacks were forced to sit in the back of the bus. The stereotypes about the different races are evidently present throughout the film.…
