The first similarity that these two movies have is that both groups of criminals try to befriend and distract the person they think is the biggest threat. For instance in the scene “Kill the messenger” in Hot fuzz the towns lone reporter Tim Messenger schedules an interview with Officer Angel during the towns annual festival to give and get some information about all of the mysterious murders around town for his next story. The group fears Messenger knows too much so they distract Officer Angel by making him announce the winner of the raffle drawing during the time of his supposed interview. By the time Angel figures out he is purposefully being distracted and leaves to meet with Messenger it is too late and he is dead in what the group would want to appear as another accident. An example in 22 Jump Street would be when Schmidt is dating the roommate of the woman who was responsible for bringing in all the drugs. The woman later on in the movie explains to Schmidt that she knew he was too old to be in college and that she was only being nice to him so that he wouldn’t figure out what she was up too. Another similarity the two films have in common would be how both groups of criminals blend into society as the least suspecting individuals to be criminals.
