The Movable Type
There were many large impacts in western civilization throughout time, creating better technologies. The movable type was a huge impact for readers and writes back in 1040. The books were made from carved out wooden blocks that were stamped individually on to single sheets of paper and then put together in a book or bible. Churches back than were the only people to have bibles because they were too expensive for just any one to buy. Many types of printing were developed throughout history metal, woodblock, type-founding, and type setting. Bi Sheng in Korea invented the oldest printing type with wood, it was very expensive because you have to carve each letter in the block of wood and then stamp the block to each piece of paper. Books and bibles would take an enormous amount of time to just create one book, costing some books to be ten thousand dollars. It is likely that he spent this time developing his new printing method, as some scholars believe it took at least ten years for Gutenberg to take his ideas to make the printing. Johannes Gutenberg did not invent the printing press. He introduced it to Europe which made books in Europe much cheaper then wooden block. Though the Gutenberg Bible was certainly the first mass produced printed work, it was hardly the first printed book or was it even the first made using movable type. He tended to credit the invention of the movable type but he poured hot liquid metal into the molds that were made to make the letters and words to print. He created his to be a little different, using a hand press and rolling the ink on to the letters and then taking a wooden frame to match everything up with the
