The Most Selfless Job Of A Teacher

Decent Essays
There are some things that profoundly impact everything they touch, but cannot even be held or seen. Education is one of these things. Whether it is the consumption of new information which your brain readily gobbles up like a starved child, or the inspiration that lights a fire inside of you and ignites the engine that drives you to success, education exists as a pathway to better ourselves and our community. Education inspires exploration, innovation and civilized thought. Without it, we are no better than the apes that we evolved from. Those apes, simply were born, existed, and then died. We have been given the chance with this education to live and profoundly impact the world every day.
The most selfless job that I can imagine is that of a teacher. I have had many over my twelve years of schooling, but a few special ones really stuck out and resonated with me. My eighth grade literature teacher, Mrs. Anian, inspired me in a way that few others have. She taught me to enjoy reading, and challenged me daily. Someone telling me that what I had handed in was not good enough, or challenging me to read a book that I figured I would hate is what set her apart from other students. She expected different things from every student, and set the bar as high as she saw each one could reach. Max Foreman once said that “teachers are people who start things that they never see finished, and for which they never get thanks until it is too late” (Foreman). I believe this applies
