Known for its spicy food and delicious tea, Thailand is one of the most favorited countries in the world. Around 30 million people from all over the world visit Thailand every year. Many go to see its beautiful architecture and monuments while others go to experience what life would be like as a Thai. There are many interesting aspects of Thailand, but some of the most intriguing are its history, culture, and religion. Across hundreds of years, these three areas have created Thailand to become what we know and love today. The Thais first began settling in the 6th century. By the end of the 13th century, they ruled most of the western portion of their settlement. For the next 400 years, Thais continued to fight with the Cambodians and the Burmese. Previously named Siam, Thailand has never experienced foreign colonization. The British did get a colonial foothold in 1824, but by 1896 an Anglo-French consensus promised Thailand’s independence. A rebellion in 1932 overthrew the monarchy and a representative government with universal suffrage was established.
During World War II, Japanese forces attacked Thailand. After five hours of fighting, Thailand submitted to Japan on Dec. 8, 1941. After breaking free from the Japanese government in July 1944, Thailand renounced the 1942 declaration of war it had been forced to make against Britain and the U.S.
By the late 1960s the nation 's problems involved much of Cambodia and Vietnam. Thailand had received $2 billion in U.S. economic…
