Siblings: A Short Story

Exactly 17 months and 15 days ago, I left my siblings behind in Springfield, Oregon to move all the way to Flint, Michigan. At the time, Emylee, my sister, was only 7 and Trevon, my brother, was 9. After we moved out here, I met my mom’s boyfriend’s children, Whitney, Logan, and Jacob. Whitney was the oldest, at 20, Logan was the same age as me, 15, and Jacob was 12. I was slightly weary of them at first, I was a little bitter with having to leave my family behind for this new one, but I grew to love them anyway. It was amazing having an older “sister” who had so much in common with me. After we got home, I spent nearly 2 weeks straight at her and her mom’s house, and even now I go over to her house almost every weekend, and we talk all day everyday through

Patrick deWitt’s The Sisters Brothers (2011): a satirical deviation from the cowboy western genre “The Wild West has always enticed the readers’ imagination” (Vanja 128). This research paper explores the context of Patrick deWitt’s The Sisters Brothers (2011). DeWitt’s use of a “stylized abstraction of western speech” (Vernon 1) offers its readers a respite from everyday life. Although it follows the traditional scheme of a cowboy western genre, the novel has certain innovations of its own (Vanja 130). The novel is narrated in a gritty 19th Century western speech, which although is sharp and distinctive, allows the story to not always be serious yet not always be funny, making the novel entertaining.…

When my first sibling was born, my role as a child changed. I took on the role as a leader and was very protective of my sister. This is one of the reasons why I think it is in my nature to be a “Mama Bear” and it could be the reason why I strive to be the best person that I could be because I know that I have someone looking up to me. This also could be the reason why I am never really that jealous of my siblings. I always wish to show the idea of love to them.…
