Two things that could cause someone to forget are interference and individual resistance to interference. Interference can cause forgetfulness when information gets mixed up or is pushed aside before it has been fully practiced and committed to memory. This can happen if a person is unable to transfer a new skill into their working memory. Individual differences in resistance to interferences involves one's ability to block out interferences while they are learning, which can be hard for many individuals, especially for those who might have something like ADHD or other disorders that preoccupy their brains. However, some individuals are able to build up a resistance to interference, which will increase their learning.

This part of the brain is continuously developing and changing each time a student receives new information and the information is organized away into one of the still open boxes in this area of the brain. How you engage with students, how you teach, what you teach, peer-to-peer interactions, and so on will change and reform the knowledge that is kept in this part of the brain until it is more developed in early adolescence. This is important in keeping things consistent in the classroom and goes along with meeting students where they are in their learning so that there is less confusion while they are developing this part of their
