Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food and how the body uses nutrients. Proper nutrition is one of the most important elements to being healthy. Without proper nutrition our bodies wouldn’t be able to carry out our everyday functions. Eating a well-balanced diet can help you get the nutrients you need to fuel your body for you daily activities and exercise. The most important meal of the day is breakfast. Eating breakfast regularly can lead to a lower risk of obesity and diabetes. Breakfast is very important on days when you exercise. When exercising without breakfast can lead to lightheadedness. Water maintains blood volume and body temperature. Water takes up about 60 percent of our body weight. Our body depends on water to survive. Lack of water could result in death or illness. Every organ, cell, and tissue in your body depends on water to work properly. Our bodies depend on water to remove waste and allow muscle contractions to take place. You should drink water every single day. Every time you sweat you lose body fluid. One of the ways the body maintains optimal body temperature is by sweating. Heat is removed from the body when the body sweats. To replace the fluids, it is important to drink fluid while exercising. If you are dehydrated, you will not preform your best when exercising. You should always start exercise well hydrated. You can tell if you are hydrated or dehydrated by the color of your urine. If your urine is colorless or a light yellow, you are well hydrated. If your urine is a dark yellow, you are dehydrated. Plain water is the best way to hydrate. Sports drinks can be helpful if you are exercising for more than an hour. Sports drinks have carbohydrates and electrolytes that can increase your energy. Although some sports drinks are high in calories due to the added sugar. Always check the serving size label that is on the back. It is very important that athlete drink at least half of their body weight in
