Personally, I make sure I get my most important tasks done before anything else. Usually these are the most time consuming, so it helps my anxiety when I realize I don’t have to put much more time into doing homework and studying. Growing up, I was always taught that academics take precedence over anything else; homework always comes first. Another important aspect of time management is to start early on an assignment. Most people, myself included, will push off an assignment into the very last couple of hours when they might’ve had a whole week to do it. This causes a great deal of unneeded stress that could’ve been prevented. The idea is to start early and plan increments of time each day to work on an assignment so you won’t ever feel pressured to get it done in a small amount of time. Balancing a student’s personal and academic life can seem to be difficult at times, but it’s possible. A simple way to be able to keep your time management solid is to learn to delegate and say no. I still have trouble being able to say no to people, but sometimes it is just easier to do that so you can keep your stress level

University promotes many other experiences for students; such as societies, sport teams and social events, which can collectively hinder the amount of time spent on studying. According to Adair (1998), having an effective balance of good quality study time and a vigorous personal life can help to measure how successful an individual’s time management is. The lack of efficient time management can result in an individual; becoming more forgetful with assignments, loosing priority, and consequently leading to a student focusing more time on one assignment over another more important assignment (Anderson and Bolt, 2013). Procrastinating is a deterrent to effective time management and it can be overcome through imagining the finished task/assignment; the feeling which is received after visualising work completed can actually act as a motivator to begin (ibid). The skills of managing time can be more effective by breaking it down into a specific step by step plan; using timetables, thinking and planning ahead, scheduling time around family and friend commitments, creating balance between academic and paid work, discovering a study method which best suits individual requirements and whilst studying take frequent breaks (National Union of Students,…

Being a successful college student will give you the skill and intelligence needed to live a successful life. I think success in life is something we crave naturally as humans. Success relies on how bad you are willing to work for it. I believe that success in college is determined by who the student is and if they are attending college for the right reasons.
