One of the most important factors in an engineer’s career is abiding by their Code of Ethics as well as others ethics laid out in national Code of Ethics. Without ethics in a workplace, morals and moral choices made by individuals would not exist. Most engineering professions have governing code of ethics that are strictly laid out in their roles as professionals and abiding by them should be one of the highest priorities. Organizations such as AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), and NSPE (National Society of Professional Engineers) Aerospace Engineering has Code of Ethics that lay out guidelines for professional conduct. Just like any other institution of academia, UMD has strict guideline to abide by in order to avoid challenges in the future. UMD may only have 4 overall criteria but they are similar to AIAA and NSPE. They talk about Fabrication, Cheating, Facilitating Academic Dishonesty, and Plagiarism, which is what I covered about. It is important to abide by these policies because by being a student at UMD, you agreed to and should agree in the future that they are important to follow similar to following traffic rules while driving on the road. You just cannot expect to speed or driving crazily while being pulled over and ticketed. If you do get caught cheating or plagiarizing, you are bound to be reported to the Academic Integrity Committee who will most likely find you guilty. By finding you guilty, they are bound to place an indication on your transcript and if it is severe, you risk the factor of being dismissed from the college. These situations may look unimportant that current moment but in the future they can mean a lot. If you plan to apply for grad school, or an internship and they look at your transcript, they are mostly likely to pick your competitor that is also applying because they had not cheated or
