Existentialism is the idea that children are able to direct their own learning. Children should be allowed to find their own meaning and purpose in life(Sadker & Zittleman, 2015). I believe that this helps chhildren build self-confidence. In an existentialism classroom teachers guide students to understand that they are unique individuals. (Sadker & Zittleman, 2015) states, “The existentialism curriculum emphasizes the humaninites as a means of provding students with vicarious expereinces that will help unleash their creativity and self-expression.” I feel that existentialism can be implemented in my classroom when children are playing in centers. During this time the children are exposed to different areas such as the house or kitchen area, science, art, blocks, and reading in which they use their imagination and pretend to be whatever it is they believe they are at the moment.
