This paper aims to answer the question of, leadership, what works best in the organisation? Leadership recruitment, mentoring or in-class training? This report also identifies what traits and styles make a good leader. Learning how to lead one's self is a prerequisite for a successful leader, however without targeted leadership recruitment, mentoring and training, individuals will lack the essential traits and experience needed to become a successful leader (Hudea, 2014). In order for organisations to successfully target, develop and influence employees to become successful leader's, employers should understand the importance of recruiting talent, mentoring, training and what method of development is most effective.

Groups are more likely to be effective in finishing projects or achieving change if the group includes a variety of personality types: the visionary, the ideas person, the person who counsels caution, the completer-finisher and the one who insists on thinking through every detail. Tools such as psychometric tests like Myers-Briggs are also an effective resource to gain self-insight and measure personal leadership strengths and weaknesses to allow organisations to properly position leaders according to their strengths (Mason 2006). A good leader recognises their own skills and limitations, then surround themselves with others who are skilled in areas they are lacking.
Effective leadership is also linked with economic success and manipulating people: "leadership is measured by success and effectiveness. A leader is successful when the person he or she is trying to influence demonstrates the desired behaviour" (Forbes, 1991, p. 70) Therefore measurement of effective leadership can be seen through financial gain, efficiency / productivity and ability to influence and inspire others to achieve a common
