In the US someone is in an accident every 10 seconds. (Mental Health Ceanter, 2016) Even though most accidents are not fatal they have a major affect on the brain. This can lead to anxiety of being in a car or having a phobia of riding cars it just depends on the person and their mental strength. (Mental Health Ceanter, 2016) According to British researchers one-third of people in accidents will end up having PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder. (Mental Health Ceanter, 2016) The accident involving the 15 year old and his brother, the older brother went through PTSD for about a year he was afraid of every car that pulled up too fast to an intersection, he had dreams about the car accident over and over. He still gets anxiety about driving because he does not trust other drivers and is now a more defensive drive. Anxiety is mostly found in the passengers of the accident rather than the driver. (Mental Health Ceanter, 2016) The driver of the car feels guilt for the accident and will have a harder recovery because they feel responsible for the accident. The drivers usually have a more difficult time coping with the results of a serious accident.
