The Setting of “The Most Dangerous Game

Without the setting of Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” the plot will not be able to work. For instance, if General Zaroff’s island is not surrounded by rocks suddenly the island is not intimidating. The jagged rocks scare boaters toward the false channel. Without these rocks boaters will have the interest to see what can be on the island. The story says Rainsford “was almost on the rocks before he saw them; on a less calm night he would have been shattered against them”(3). With these rocks there Zaroff is safe from authorities or powerful people catching him. Also the boulders cause people from attempting to find or kill the general.
