The red that Zaroff wears on his clothes is the symbolism of his blood lust. The darkness in the island represents what’s going on in the darkness and all the things happening pass the darkness. The jungle represents the loss of Zaroffs control. The island is meant to put fear into people. When Rainsford boat was passing through everyone was trying to get past the island as fast as they could which shows the fear that the island brings to them.
