It is important to educate family members as well as the patient as they will be the support system at home for the patient. Together, Sam and Emma will learn to set achievable goals, understand how to prevent complications of diabetes and learn to self manage the diabetes that Sam has. Emma needs to learn about the food portion sizes and healthy food choices so that when she is doing the cooking or grocery shopping she can make the right choices for them. Emma is also asked to take the questionnaire in order to find out what her learning style is so that we can teach her in a way that she will be ready and willing to learn as much as possible to be able to help Sam. Emma is a 32 year old, stay at home mom with a two year old. Emma is also in the Young Adulthood development …show more content…
