The Most Common Misconceptions Of Lesbian Sex

Improved Essays
Unfortunately lesbians seem to bear the brunt of stereotypes and common misconceptions more than most. With statements such as 'All lesbians are vegetarians', 'all lesbians hate men' and 'lesbians are all feminists right?' these popular myths all creep into the minds of many. But above all, the most famous fable by far, is what lesbians get up to in the bedroom. Here are 7 of the most common misconceptions about lesbian sex.

Number Seven: Can Lesbians Actually Have Sex?

Probably the most common question with regards to lesbian sex. Is it actually possible? Of course it is possible, sex can be anything anyone wants it to be. Be it penetrative or not, sex and sexual intercourse are not the same thing.

Number Six: Lesbians only use dildos right?

Kind of. Referring to the act of two women rubbing their vaginas together whilst interlocking their legs, scissoring is usually seen in the sexual entertainment business rather than in a lesbians bedroom. However that's not to say that lesbians never do it but the fact is, it is just not as common as most like to think. Sorry South Park!

Number Three: So Who Plays The 'Man' Role In Lesbian Sex?

Believe it or not nobody takes on the role of 'the male' because the two people having sex are surprisingly both women. That's the point. Number Two: Lesbians have all slept with each other at least

This shows that men see lesbianism as a threat to them because they will not need a man in their life, instead it is two women which possibly “raises the consciousness of many Chicana women regarding their own independence and control.” (186). Meaning without a role of a man in the relationship it will deprive the dominance the men have in relationships causing them to feel inferior.…

Though transsexuals have this oasis from judgment, bisexuals often do not share the same comforts. Bisexuals of both binary genders suffer a disregard of their identity from the outside heterosexual world. Females deal with their sexuality being seen not as an identity but as a label that pornography companies throw around as an erotic bonus to anything that needs it. The female bisexual label is entirely normalized. Jenny Kangasvuo (2007) writes: In porn magazines, the term 'bisexuality' serves multiple purposes and it is not pinned…

In Stephen Mays article “Great Sexpectations: What About Gender Roles in Same Sex Relationships” he argues that there does not have to be a male and female role for a relationship to work. As the reader goes through his article they can see Mays state “As clear as you would think it is to see, I’ll spell it out for you: neither of them are the girl. They’re both boys.” While most people look at a same sex relationship and ask the question “who is the boy and who is the girl?”, Mays states that neither, the couple are either both female or both male. Though traditional roles may still apply in same-sex relationships; they just may not be as strong.…

According to society, women are supposed to be thin, but not too skinny, unless you want to be called anorexic. They are expected to wear makeup, but not too much cause then you look “slutty.” Females are supposed to be sexy, but not too much because then you are “asking for it.” Also, women are expected to be kind, nurturing, emotional, passive, quiet, dependent, submissive, and weak (the man needs to save the woman). African American females are considered to be “hypersexual and physically tough” (Wade and Ferree, 2015, p. 91).…

Just as Black females come in all shape, sizes and shades of color, there is no one box that can contain a Black woman’s sexuality. Since slavery days, there has been a suppressive chain placed by society dictating that Black women were either sex toys for someone else’s pleasure or an asexual laborer that could be treated even worse than a Black man. Sojourner Truth described the reality of being a Black female in 1851 with “Ain’t I a Women?” declaring that can work just has hard as man and her body has produced lives new lives, yet she never receives the best places or has a man help her into carriages even though she is a woman. In 1962, Malcolm X told the world that nothing has changed since Truth spoke with his speech “Who Taught You to…
