The Mosses lived in a two room trailer with sixteen other children. All of the children 's possessions were taken away from them the moment they move into the house. The children had to share their clothing and the few possessions they were allowed to keep. Mrs.Moss ran the household with fear. She was a tyrant over the children in the home. her husband sat by not caring what she did or what the children did. Mrs. moss had a short temper which lead her to be abusive towards the children. ashley talks about times she was punished by Mrs.Moss. After a few week living in their home ashley felt sick and threw up on the bathroom floor. Instead of Mrs.Moss helping her and cleaning it up she shoved Ashley 's face into her own vomit them making her clean it herself/ Ashley was also punished for wetting the bed by having to sleep in it. Other examples are: having to do wall sit for 30 minutes or more depending on Mrs.Moss`s attitude, running laps around the house in the hot Georgia sun until she told them to stop, the children were malnourished and starved, beaten with the wooden paddle, and ashley w3as given the job to bathe the other children all in the same one inch of water. if Ashley herself was not clean enough to mrs.Moss`s standards she was forced back into the disgusting water and she scrubbed her with w sponge untill her skin was bright red and her skin almost peeling off. serval times Ashley would try to tell the social worker that was working her case of the terrors of living in the Mosses home, but they would never believe her. She was labeled as a liar and not on would believe her. Mrs.Moss would but on a good act to have the social workers to believe that she was a good foster mother. After their visit with the worker Mrs.Moss would punish Ashley for trying to tell them what she would do to the children. finally the social workers started to look into the Mosses case.
