We come to find out from this article that the American economy has been the frontier this whole time. American’s have been so caught up in the need for land, and weren’t even thinking about all the money. Now that this is happening, “a growth in responsibility and happiness-will have to fulfill our need to believe that our possibilities are still expanding” (94). America needed to start thinking about what wants and needs of theirs were going to benefit them more. Shames goes on to talk about how the people of America are not letting the frontier’s promise die. “It is not a coincidence that John F. Kennedy dubbed his political promise the New Frontier” (95). He explains how America is different from other countries because we have access to resources. For example, the United States gets oil from North Dakota and down south, coal from Asia, and steel from Canada and Asia as well. The United States have never been in need of things but the generations coming are all wanting more and more and will never be satisfied. I agree with what he is saying because even some of my bosses at my work say how my generation is ruining some business because we are “lazy”. He never lets me forget how my generation just wants to sit at home and never do anything with our lives. Now that I am starting to thinks about college I find this statement very helpful because college isn’t cheap, and working is the one way that I will make money to pay off my
