Benefits Of Freedom Of Speech

Freedom of speech gives the right of an open expression of ideas and opinions without being pursued by the government after that. It takes its origins form the Athens’ democratic ideology of the late 6th or early 5th century BC. The Athenian democracy was the first known democracy of the world. The democracy gives rights to take part in the countries` legal life and to express ones ideas openly. The idea of free speech is not only the sharp topic in the modern world, and the thing that people seek, but the problem and question that provokes many dabates. Nevertheless the right of a human to express his ideas openly can be found in, for example, in the European Convention on Human Rights and in the American Convention on Human Rights. Despite this fact there is no such fact as the complete freedom of speech. Even if the legal documents source and state the freedom of speech as the right of every citizen in a perticular country, there will always be limitations of it.

Freedom of speech is only a part of humans` freedom in general, although it is one of the most valuable parts of freedom. And of course with freedom here come responsibilities. If one openly expresses ideas and thoughts he ought to understand that aftermath he must answer for his words. This means that if a human lies, he will answer for this, if insults someone, he will also answer for this. Having an opportunity of free speech requires the strong understanding of such kind of responsibility. One cannot just go and say everything that he thinks, because it is necessary to understand the consequences of his actions.
