What Is The Purpose Of Capital Punishment

Improved Essays
Although many people believe in capital punishment, we believe that capital punishment serves no useful purpose since it does not deter capital crimes from being committed and if we review the social and moral reasons for such punishment we will find that such punishment should be abandoned as "cruel and unusual" punishment" as defined in the Constitution. First off we don’t condone offenses against the law, however, the treatment of those who have disregarded the law is horrible. Prisoners are treated with various counts of social and moral injustice every single day. Barely anyone truly cares about these people who need real help and habilitation. It is truly sad to see how terrible our justice system is at rehabilitation, especially since …show more content…
The social obligations of everyone should be to search for rehabilitation. But, that rarely ever occurs. The moral obligations of everyone that works in such a facility should be geared towards helping the individual to be able to be placed in society once again. However, there are too many times when people even try and actually help inmates. We believe that the general eye sees people as monsters for terrible deeds that have committed. Seen as monsters they truly become monsters. There is a story about a “thief” that show in a sense both outlooks. Here are the main ideas behind the story. A man has never stolen anything. He is a husband and father of two a boy and a girl. He has a well-paying job and a warm house. However, a few people believe that he is a thief. Never stolen anything. First, a few stores refuse to sell him goods because he is a “thief” so he goes elsewhere to buy his family food. Next, his fellow neighbors and good friends begin to exile him and his family because he is a “thief”. Then, his employer fires him because he cannot have a thief working for him. Never stolen anything. Soon, he loses his house, all his money, and all he has left are his family. He has nowhere to turn all odds are against him so what does he do? A baker notices one day that some bread has gone missing. Stolen bread. This man was forced into believing that he was a thief because that’s what he was told as well as allowed no opportunities to come back from. We look at today’s world and realize that if someone is labeled as a killer or a rapist, they now hold that title for the rest of their lives. It’s no longer a Mr. or Mrs. that they remember it’s the adjectives that people have used to describe them. Never unclean of sins and guilt. This is why we as a people need to create better facilities that rehabilitate people rather than just creating prison after

Capital punishment, or the death penalty, remains one of the most controversial topics in the United States of America. Two parties are usually at odds with this issue. There are several benefits to prioritizing rehabilitation, one major benefit is the amount of money to be saved. The imprisonment of nearly 3 million people has ran up a massive cost to the U.S. government and in turn the american people. Rehabilitation gives our country a chance to start moving forward in that respect. In San Francisco, a prison moved towards rehabilitation in dealing with its inmates and in turn this new program “ saved the taxpayers $4 for every $1 spent on it, since the lower reincarceration rate saved roughly $30,000 a year per person.” ( The New York Times).…

Pressing for Prison Reform The prison system is just as corrupt as the prisoners inside them. We live in a world where it is deemed acceptable to punish a criminal by taking away their humanity, and only release them when they find it themselves. We must reform the flawed prison system; only then can we correct the criminal way of life. Today, it is not uncommon to hear intrusive and abhorrent events that happen behind bars, including excessive violence, sexual harassment, health violations, and misconduct of legal power.…

The death penalty has been a solution to crimes constantly. Justice systems around the world have chosen to take the life of a criminal instead of sentencing them to life in prison. Capital punishment should be abolished because the justice system should not have the authority to take a criminal’s life. According to capital punishment laws, it is not justified for a criminal to take a life, but it is acceptable for a member of the justice system to take that criminal’s life.…

It is obvious that the main issue is whether to heal a prisoner simply for the purpose of execution or otherwise. The basic undertone to this argument could be whether the government authority has the power to force prisoners or citizens to take drugs without their consent regardless of their status. Another point of argument could be making a prisoner sane before execution is rational or a good reasoning before killing. In this scenario, Charles Laverne Singleton is a prisoner on death row, and he is awaiting execution for the crime of felony capital murder. Singleton became insane while in prison, it can be inferred that his insanity is related to the approaching date of execution.…
