Moral Compass In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies

Suppose there was a world in which no one had a moral compass. There would be nothing stopping someone from doing anything, as nothing would be seen as “wrong” or “right.” It would be a real life Lord of the Flies, with savagery and disorder being commonplace. But what is a moral compass anyway? The dictionary definition defines it as “a person's ability to judge what is right and wrong and act accordingly,” but is there more to it than that? The use of moral compass can be seen almost anywhere, whether in Lord of the Flies, where Ralph has to use his own moral compass to help him make it through his time on the island, or in real life, where people have been using their moral compass for their whole lives in order to make decisions. It gives them the ability to decipher between right and wrong, which can help to improve their lives and lead them to be successful. For example, one’s moral compass can guide them by encouraging them to not participate in illegal activities, which can have a large impact on their future. One’s moral compass can also help them to leave a good impact on the people around them. To elaborate on this, a moral compass can lead people to be nicer, happier people, which positively influences those around them. Most people try to use their moral compass as much as possible, although every now and then everyone does something that would not go along with their morals. A moral compass can often dictate one’s life, and some people may make decisions based solely on their moral compass. Teens are usually able to understand their moral compass, and know what is the right decision in any given situation.
